The best way to discover Victoria!
Victoria has its very own 19th century castle! Craigdarroch Castle, built by Scottish immigrant Robert Dunsmuir - at one time the richest man in Western Canada - is a prime example of the huge "bonanza castles" built in the Industrial Revolution. Dunsmuir died before he could live in his castle, but his widow dwelled there until 1908. (The structure is now owned by Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society.)
Stunning in its Victorian architecture, the castle perched on a hill above the city is 4 ½ stories and boasts 39 rooms decorated with ornate period furniture. The house and gardens are being restored to their original splendor. Tour rooms including the tower, which provides a panoramic view of the city. Tours are self-guided
